During a recent study tour organised by Eurosite and hosted by the Latvian Fund for Nature as part of the LIFE GrassLIFE2 project, we visited several restored grassland sites and discussed different approaches to habitat restoration and long-term management.
One question that came up repeatedly was how to ensure the continued management of restored habitats once project funding comes to an end.
(For those interested in the project: GrassLIFE2 project website )
We would be interested to hear about your experiences:
- How is the long-term management of restored habitats financed in your region?
- Have you encountered difficulties maintaining conservation grazing or habitat management after project funding ended?
- Which funding mechanisms, partnerships, or business models have proven successful?
- What do you see as the biggest challenges for ensuring the long-term sustainability of restoration efforts?
Are there examples of succesful long-term approaches that could inspire similar efforts elsewhere in Europe?
